Amazon Basin and Iquitos

Iquitos is the largest city in the Peruvian jungle. Located between the Nanay and Amazonas rivers, Iquitos is
an important river port and represents an entrance point for expeditions and cruises into the Amazon jungle.
With a warm and humid climate, Iquitos harbors interesting attractions such as the Iron House designed by Eiffel, the Amazon Library, the Etnographic Museum,
and the Belén market.
Nearby Iquitos it is possible to appreciate the local culture and folklore. A few kilometers outside of the city, the Moronacocha and Quistococha
Lakes are found, places for recreation and relaxation. The Biosphere Reserve of the Amazons and the Pacaya-Samiria
National Reserve are a few kilometers from Iquitos. The Pacaya-Samiria Reserve is the largest in Peru with more than eight lakes, and it is home to many exotic species such as the
Amazon manatee, pink and gray dolphins, two species of caimans and a giant tortoise, as well as a great variety of monkeys and birds.
From Iquitos it is possible to take more attractive cruises that run through the Amazons to the borders of Colombia and Brazil. These include activities such as
hikes through the jungle, visits to native villages, nocturnal expeditions, and fishing.
