Arequipa and Colca Valley

Arequipa is a land of volcanoes, thermal baths, and profound and impressive canyons.
Arequipa is the second largest city in Peru and enjoys a temperate climate and sun all year long.
Nicknamed the White City, a large number of the constructions in Arequipa were made out of a white volcanic stone named sillar (ashlar stone):
the Monastery of Santa Catalina, a fascinating religious monument, standing out in the center of the city; the facade and the alter of the Cathedral off
of the Plaza de Armas, covered in gold; the Santuario Andinos museum, which houses the mummified body of an Incan princess; and the ancient church of the Compañía, and the Recoleta Monastery
with its museum and antique museum.
Mountains surround Arequipa. From different points in the city, you can make out the Misti volcano next to the Chachani and Pichu Pichu summits.
Nearby the city are the National Sanctuary Lagunas de Mejía, the Aguada Blanca National Reserve, and a great number of thermal springs.
To the north of Arequipa is Colca Valley where one of the most profound canyons in the world is found, Colca Canyon.
By traveling through the canyon it is possible to see some of the inhabitants of the area and to observe their typical habitats, and furthermore to see stupendous views of the canyon.
From the viewpoint of the Cruz del Condor, you can witness the flight of these Andean birds.
