Iquitos was founded by a Jesuit mission in 1750. During the first half of the 20th century it experienced growth thanks to the increase in commercial rubber, which is still reflected in some of the buildings such as the House of Iron, designed by the French architect, Gustavo Eiffel.
Iquitos is surrounded by different towns and villages, such as those of the Bora natives, who have become a tourist attraction. You can also find the Quistococha Zoo, with it's large artificial beach, along with forested area, and wild animals, making it an excellent tourist attraction in Peru.
On an adventure through the Peruvian Amazon Jungle, you will discover wonders despite urbanization and the advance in civilization. On a guided walk you will be able to identify botanical species, discover medicinal plants and see impressive trees such as the Lupuna, a tree much saught after for its dimensions in the making of triplay.
